Organic Light Emitting Diodes

Organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) are now widely used in display technologies such as screens for mobile phones and televisions. Research in OLEDs started in the 1970s and grew rapidly leading to commercial applications in display industry. OLEDs have many advantages. They are flexible, light weight, has wide viewing angle, good colour purity, can be semitransparent, solution processable and printable, etc. In addition to applications in display technologies, OLEDs are also being explored for applications in solid state lighting and wearable electronics. The advancement in OLED technologies will be underpinned by development of new materials, deeper understanding of device physics and development of innovative and robust processing/fabrication techniques.
